Spring in Los Angeles: What to See, Where to Go, and What to Do

It feels like Los Angeles has been stuck in an endless winter. Weeks on end of rain and frigid temperatures has all us Angelino’s bracing for the springtime. As we get ready to wave goodbye to our fur jackets and knee highs, we start planning what we will do after all this time spent in hibernation. Resuming our typical outdoor activities is a given, but LA is a city that always has something new and innovative going on. Read ahead for suggestions on how to maximize your spring plans this year!

Melrose Trading Post

The Melrose Trading Post is a vintage lover’s dream. Every Sunday from 9am-5pm this outdoor flea market sells everything from new clothing, arts and crafts, antiques, vintage fashion, and one-of-a-kind treasures. As the weather warms up, it is the ideal time to visit. The best part of the trading post is that there’s constantly something new. In between shopping for trendy pieces, be sure to grab a bite to eat from one of the many food vendors. Admission is only $5, and all proceeds is donated to the Fairfax High School.

Get Outdoors and Go On a Hike

What better way is there to get outside and get some steps in than to take a scenic hike? The Secret Stairs of Beachwood Canyon is a 2.6 mile trek through Hollywood history. Consisting of 861 steps, as you climb the stairs you’ll have a stunning view of the Hollywood sign, the Griffith Observatory, Lake Los Angeles, and DTLA. This printable map will help you locate the secret stairs.

Head to The Desert

A ritual a lot of Angelinos have is heading to the desert each spring for 3 days of music, food, and fashion. Tickets for Coachella went on sale back in January and sold out within a few hours, but you can join the waitlist. Also, be sure to check websites like Stubhub, and VividSeats for resale tickets. Museum of Dream Space

The Museum of Dream Space is the latest pop-up museum set to arrive in LA. It will be the first in the US to feature mainly digital art influenced and curated by the well known artist, Yayoi Kusama–known for her infinity rooms. “The aim of MODS is to provide an immersive, magical and unique art appreciative experiences to the visitors.” Set to open on April 1st, pre-sale tickets are available and selling fast.

Dinner at Élephante

Every season Los Angeles has a new and trendy restaurant that everyone desires a table at. Right now it’s Élephante. Located in Santa Monica with views of the Pacific Ocean, this rooftop oasis provides Southern Mediterranean cuisine with dishes like whipped eggplant, watermelon and radish salad, and homemade pastas and pizzas. There’s also three bars that feature Italian-inspired cocktails like the Marco Polo Mule, and the Orchard Slushie. Book a reservation to avoid the crazy wait!

Smorgasburg Los Angeles

Smorgasburg LA is an Instagram foodie’s paradise. Every Sunday from 10am-4pm you can stop by and try an array of food selections (over 70 vendors), while shopping for unique crafts and tasting various types of beer. Peep Smorgasburg’s Instagram page for photos of some of the yummy food options. Another bonus—it’s free to attend and there’s free 2 hour parking.

Candi Pop Dance Party

Oh, if we could go back to the 90’s for one day—at Candi Pop you can! This dance party only plays music from the 90’s to 2000’s. Get ready to belt out to NSYNC and Britney Spears throwbacks. Purchase pre-sale tickets for $10, which will help you escape the line. Held at Satellite, the next Candi Pop event is March 15th at 9pm.

Pretty Little Thing

Our favorite UK fast fashion retailer Pretty Little Thing, has opened its first west coast brick and mortar store. If you haven’t shopped Pretty Little Thing’s website yet, you must! The retailer sells clothing, jewelry, shoes, and beauty products. The product selection is vast, good quality and very affordable.

Venice Canals

If you haven’t been to the Venice Canals yet, you must make a point of stopping there. Forget about it’s reputation for being a date destination. Date or no date, you’re bound to have an incredible time. You’ll be transported to Venice without leaving the country.

Spring Clean Your Closet

Poshmark is an app that allows you to sell your clothes, shoes, and accessories. The interface is similar to Instagram, where you take a photo of your item and provide a description with a listing price. The app will take a percentage of your sale, but all you have to worry about is printing out the shipping label and sending out the item. The buyer will cover the shipping costs. Once the item is in buyer’s hand, they will rate it and Poshmark will release your earnings via your choice of direct deposit or check.

St. Patrick’s Day at Hermosa Beach

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Hermosa Beach will take place this year on March 16 at 11am. The 7 block parade will begin at City Hall and continue to Hermosa Avenue and 10th street. There will be numerous street vendors selling food, crafts, clothing, etc.

Egg House Los Angeles

An egg themed pop-up museum? Sounds bizarre, right? If you are an egg connoisseur, then Egg House is for you. If not, then you should still go because what a creative concept. This interactive museum will feature tons of installations and lots of Insta-worthy opportunities. There will also be vendors selling egg merch and snacks.  The museum is set to open in late March. Plan a Picnic

Whether you live in (or you’re visiting) Los Angeles, having a springtime picnic should be on your list of things to do. There are so many options of fascinating places to choose from like Vista Hermosa Park, Venice Beach, Echo Park Lake, Point Dume, or if you’re feeling adventurous, the desert!

Take a Pottery Class

Get crafty this spring and book a pottery class. Learn how to create a centerpiece or a coffee mug.
