All Things September: What to See, Buy, Do, Eat and Listen to in Los Angeles

September To Do List:

Even though we’re in a heatwave, September 22 makes it officially fall. In our monthly series All Things September, check out some of the stylish home decor that Target is carrying. Cool off with a frozen hot chocolate from Compartes new flagship store and Screen The Deuce before it premieres on HBO. Get ready for back to the office with some cute journals from Chronicle Books or try to score tickets to Yayoi Kusama’s new exhibit at The Broad Museum. You can watch the documentary “Man in Red Bandana” in honor of 9/11 and listen to Wu-Tang’s new single, “People Say” before their album drops next month.

Must Haves: Target Fall Home Decor

Target has really stepped up their game, especially in the home decor department. Lately I’ve been obsessing over decorating my apartment with all the stylish items they have. Every time I go in to pick up some groceries, I end up coming home with frames, candles, stationery, pillows and whatever else happens to catch my eye. I’m planning on writing an article featuring all the trendy fall stuff that’s available right now, but until then here a few of my favorites.

Once you’re done add toppings like edible 24 carat gold, cake bars, cereal and of course rainbow sprinkles.

The Deuce centers around the disco era of Times Square when the sex industry and drugs ran rampant. Rather than going  into a back alley to do something illegal, Times Square was an open playground for that sort of illicit behavior.”

Instead of giving you just one new book suggestion this month, like in the past…I decided to give you eight. Here are some of the chic journals, thank you cards and pencils that Chronicle Books have available right now. They are perfect for heading back to the office after an amazing summer vacation. I’m in love with the Christian Lacroix x Sol Y Sombra collaboration and The Rolling Stones limited edition notebooks.

Not long ago I visited The Broad Museum for the first time and had such an amazing experience. Seeing some of my favorite artists’ works right in front of me, like Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Jeff Koons was such a great pleasure. Unfortunately the standby line for the Infinity Mirror Room was too long so I missed that exhibit. I had to settle for seeing other people’s photos and videos on Instagram and I swore to myself, next time I’d order tickets in advance.
On September 1st tickets for Yayoi Kusama’s new exhibit were available for $25 but they have already sold out. You can still purchase tickets each day the exhibit is open for $30 on a first come, first serve basis. The tickets will give you access to six of Kusama’s new Infinity Mirror Rooms like the iconic kaleidoscopic environments, large-scale installations, sculptures, paintings, and works on paper from the 1950’s to the present, as well as general admission to The Broad. The traveling exhibit runs from October 21st to January 1st and you can find more info here.

This must see documentary is about Welles Crowther, a 9/11 hero. Welles was tragically killed when the South Tower lobby collapsed, but not before staying and risking his own life to save so many others. For months he was an unknown hero, until his red bandana told his heroic story. The film paints a picture of how he became a hero in his last and final hours. In his honor, songs and artwork now bare his name, and parents have named their children after him.
Pre-order a DVD or see a screening in select theaters.
