Connecting Mind and Body: Yoga on the Beach in Los Angeles
My first time trying yoga was a couple years ago. I was in search for a new workout and had heard great reviews from friends. I learned quickly why so many people love this exercise. Leaving my first class I felt amazing physically and mentally. It was easy to see why so many swear by doing yoga to better themselves. Since then I try my best to fit in a yoga class every so often. I've never gotten to a point of doing anything too advanced, though there has been some improvement in my flexibility. My main reason for continuing a yoga practice has always been for the mental clarity it leaves me with after each class. Each time has felt like a moving meditation that allows me to clear my mind and release any stress.
I've always stuck to classes in a studio, so when I heard about a group that meets on the beach to practice yoga, I became intrigued. A calming yoga practice by the ocean sounds like the absolute perfect way to find some zen and refresh, so I was quick to sign up. I went to a free class on the bluffs of Long Beach. A group meets there every Saturday morning to do yoga on the grass near the ocean. The experience was exactly how I imagined. Relaxing, empowering, and rejuvenating. Being able to hear and feel the ocean while connecting to your mind and body is a luxury we are fortunate to have! Especially with it still being summertime, there's no better way to get moving than on the beach.
