July 4th Looks That Will Take You From Day To Night

Fourth of July is fast approaching and one of my favorite things about this holiday is choosing a red, white and blue outfit, which can be a little tricky. If you’re not careful you’ll end up looking more Jersey Shore-ish than Hamptonesque.

Down below are some tips and tricks on how to recreate some of my favorite July 4th looks. When you’re done drawing inspiration, you can shop my beloved red, white and blue styles which will have you going from a day BBQing at the beach to watching the fireworks at night.

Maxi Dresses and Skirts

Maxi dresses and skirts are great because they’re both comfortable and flattering and can go from a casual cookout to attending an elegant Fourth of July soiree in a matter of seconds. When styling a maxi skirt, a great option is a bodysuit or a crisp blouse. Stay away from heavier fabrics and go for fabrics like cotton or knit. Skip the flip-flops and opt for sandals or heels depending on what your plans are. Accessorize with a waist-flattering belt.

Going Casual–Denim Shorts and a Printed Top

This style is simple to pull off, especially when Fourth of July is coming up and you don’t have an outfit already planned. All of these causal looks have one thing in common–accessories. You can wear any red, white and blue top and make it stand out by adding a hat, a unique handbag or cool shades with a pair of Converse sneakers. Just don’t overdo it or you go from trendy to tacky. Two of my favorite labels that make tees perfect for the Fourth of July Weekend are Chaser and Wildfox.

Mixing Solid Colors

This look can seem intimidating to recreate but it’s really quite simple. Stick with three solid colors (red, white or tan, and blue). Gold or silver accessories pull the outfits together. When creating this style look towards G Star Raw and Levis for inspiration.

Bold Prints

Creating an outfit with bold prints can seem threatening. You have two options, one, choose two prints that compliment each other and that are in the same color family, like the stars and stripes look. For a safer approach pair a bold printed top and go minimal with the rest by wearing a pair of denim shorts.

Swimsuits

When spending the Fourth of July at the beach or by the pool, a perfect way to stay cool is to wear a swimsuit as a top. Whether it’s a one-piece (worn as a tank tucked in) or a bikini top you can pair it with a dainty cover-up and denim shorts.

Sundresses and Skirts

Sundress and skirts always look chic and they’re so versatile. They can be worn dressed up (with heels or sandals) or dressed down as a street style look with cool sneakers. Another thing that stands out about these looks are the accessories. When wearing a nautical striped dress or skirt, pair with a bold colored handbag and a unique jacket.

Hamptons Style

When I think of Fourth of July this is what style first comes to mind. The preppy Gossip Girl, Hamptons look. Think Blair Waldorf or Olivia Palermo and use designers like Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger for inspiration when creating this classy, yet simple style. Look for a button down shirt, nautical stripes, a good quality belt and a designer handbag to tie it all together. You can also wear all white like Olivia does here.

White Denim and Off The Shoulder Tops

White denim is one of summer’s biggest trends and so are off the shoulder tops. Put both of them together and you have a polished, sophisticated, and trendy look that can go from day to night.
