After closely monitoring NYFW 2018 runway shows, the top trends for fall/winter 2018 have been narrowed down; lilac, crazy animal prints, puffy furs, plaids, muted florals, miniature bags, fanny packs, sparkly socks, heeled mules, and slouchy boots.
Trends this season are similar to previous years, but with a new approach focusing on interesting silhouettes and styling. Clothing will be very print focused with loose fitting styles. Instead of the accessories creating the finishing touches, the focal point will be on the garment themselves. Accessories this year will be very minimal.
The 2018 Pantone color of the year, Ultra Violet will also be a large influence in this year’s fashion.
– Lavish Lilac –
Lilac will be the hit color for this upcoming fall/winter season. The cool hue will make a lovely core color on any piece. Pair lilac with another cool hue to create a relaxed look or pair with a darker hue to create an edgy feel. It is after all, the year of the color purple.

– Crazy Animal Prints –
Animal prints typically come and go, but this year they come back with a bigger bang. Animal prints will be incorporated in more everyday wear, without coming off too tacky. Keep your cheetah and zebra printed furs because they’re bound to make a statement this season.

Furs will come in a variety of colors, aside from the traditional neutral colors. A blend of animal prints and pops of colors will make them extra special this season.

– Practical Plaid –
Let’s face it, plaid will never go away and this is a good thing for this fall staple print. This season plaid will be seen in a lot more than button up shirts. This bold print will be featured in more fashion forward bodies, adding a rugged feel. Nothing screams “fall is here,” more than a plaid piece.

Fanny packs are back and cooler than ever. Not only are these super reliable, but look very hip with the right outfit. The best part of a fanny pack is that you don’t have to worry about anyone stealing your bag because it’s strapped to you!

– The Matrix Glasses –
Now you too can be a badass like Neo from the Matrix. Thanks to Alexander Wang dominating the runway with matrix sunglasses, these tiny, black sunglasses are set to be popular this season. Matrix glasses are perfect for unleashing the inner rebel within or simply for disguise purposes if that’s more your thing.

– Sparkly Socks –
Wave goodbye to the white socks in your drawer because sparkles are in. Socks for fall/winter will come in sheer and lurex fabrications. Although these won’t do much in keeping your feet warm, they sure will make a statement when paired with the right kind of shoes.

– Heeled Mule –
The mule made a statement this past fall/winter season, but it’s not ready to leave just yet. This upcoming season, the mule will be enhanced by the addition of a heel. Mules can easily be paired with any outfit to create a sophisticated ensemble.

– Slouchy Volume Boots –
Knee high boots were cool, but slouchy volume boots will be cooler. Don’t get fooled by the name, these boots will do their job of accentuating your legs. Slouchy boots will be popular in leather and suede fabrications, and can be worn with knee high socks to create a layered look.

This season is intriguing. A lot of interesting prints and styles. I was a little upset that big accessories came out of mod. But nothing: I think it will be possible to combine them somehow.
